Graduate Research Assistant
The Evergreen State College

Ricky Johnson graduated from The Evergreen State College (Evergreen) through the Reservation-Based Community-Determined (RBCD) Program in 2013. During his time in RBCD, Ricky developed a passion for ethnobotany and environmental research focusing the majority of his academic papers towards environmental studies which included: hazard mitigation, salmon habitat water quality, state fishing consumption rates and traditional uses of native plant species of the Pacific Northwest Tribes. He is the first student who graduated from the RBCD Program to enter the Masters in Environmental Studies at Evergreen. Ricky brings an American Indian voice to the Sustainability in Prisons Project and looks to continue to build his knowledge and work skills while helping his fellow community members and Tribal citizens. Ricky is an enrolled citizen of the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and is also Makah from Neah Bay, Washington. When he is not conducting research he can be found playing around the local parks with his daughter, writing music, attending Indian community cultural events, and watching the Seahawks.
